Civil Engineer William Scuh was named Aurizon's Graduate of the Year at the 2016 Excellence Awards in December. The award recognises graduates who have gone above-and-beyond and have consistently demonstrated Aurizon's values.
The Mackay based Civil Engineer was recognised for his commitment to delivering projects to the highest standard, determination for solving complex rail solutions, and perseverance for continuous learning and development.
Will commenced with Aurizon in late 2012 as a student civil engineer in the Brisbane office and what was meant to be 60 days of work experience over the summer university break soon became a full-time career.
After joining Aurizon as a graduate Civil Engineer in 2013, Will had the opportunity to travel and work across Queensland, learning about different aspects of constructing and maintaining a railway.
Will’s graduate program rotations gave him the opportunity to work as a site engineer on yard construction projects in Townsville and the $900 million Wiggins Island Rail Project in Rockhampton, a District Asset Engineer in Mackay and a Civil and Structural designer in Brisbane.
After completing the Graduate program in late 2016, Will secured a role as District Civil Engineer in Mackay where he is responsible for providing technical advice on construction and maintenance activities along the Goonyella and Newlands Rail Systems. His role also entails analysing and trending data as well as collaborating with Network and Service Delivery to create sustainable processes and solutions for network management to improve operational efficiencies.
Will is grateful for the training and support he received whilst completing Aurizon’s Graduate program and enjoys making a difference in his current role by driving change throughout the business.
Will was honoured to win Aurizon’s Graduate of the year award and appreciated being recognised for his hard work. He also valued the acknowledgement his supervisors and colleagues received for their contribution towards his development.
Aurizon’s Employee Excellence Awards recognise the highest achievers from almost 6,000 employees who work for Australia’s largest rail and freight company.
