Aurizon’s Community Giving Fund: building stronger communities together

Aurizon, Australia’s largest rail-based transport business, is delighted to announce the latest recipients of its Community Giving Fund, which supports charities and community organisations across our national operational footprint.
This initiative underscores Aurizon’s commitment to enriching and engaging with the communities where our employees live and work.
The fund awards grants to support projects in education, community safety, environment, and health and well-being.
Andrew Harding, Aurizon’s Managing Director & CEO, said the grants of up to $20,000 were extremely important in aiding local non-profit organisations playing a crucial role in serving communities within Aurizon’s operational areas.
“We are excited to support the regional areas where over 80% of Aurizon’s employees reside and work.” Mr Harding said.
“The Community Giving Fund is our way of contributing to local projects, allowing us to give back and positively impact the lives of people in these regions.”
In this round, 23 recipients have been selected to receive funding, ensuring Aurizon continues to make a difference in the communities it serves.
“For example, in Western Australia, we are supporting Give Write by funding the purchase of essential school supplies such as exercise books, glue, pencil cases, and rulers. These items will be included in stationery packs and provided to underprivileged students across the Geraldton area. These packs will ensure that students have all the basic items needed to fully participate in their school education programs.
“In New South Wales we are supporting Surf Lifesaving Illawarra. Funding will be used to purchase a tourniquet trainer and two defibrillator trainers to support the upskilling of volunteer surf lifesavers across the Illawarra Branch ahead of the 2025/26 patrol season.
“In South Australia, we are supporting the Tailem Bend Community Centre by funding the construction of an inclusive outdoor kitchen and gathering space at the station master house. This facility will provide meals, support, and serve as a research base to better understand and address homelessness in the local region.
“In the Northern Territory, we are supporting CareFlight. Funding will be used towards the purchase of a CMAC 4 Video Laryngoscope. This tools will assist clinicians in the intubation process during emergency medical scenarios in the Katherine region.
“In Queensland, we are supporting Whitsunday Catchment Landcare by funding on-ground works conducted by a bush regeneration team and volunteers. This includes transport, chemicals, and equipment, as well as site assessments at the endangered Littoral Rainforest, known as Beach Scrub, and the adjacent dune vegetation of Dingo Beach and Nelly Bay.”
