Meet Jeremy. He’s Aurizon’s Trainee of the Year. When Jeremy was looking for a career change after 10 years in the hospitality industry, he decided that a traineeship with Aurizon was the way to go.
Working for Australia’s largest rail-based transport business, Jeremy started a two year Business Administration traineeship in 2012 to learn new skills while gaining on the job experience.
During his traineeship, Jeremy completed a Certificate III and IV in Business Administration. He had the chance to put these skills into practice working in administration roles on some of Aurizon’s large scale infrastructure projects.
In his current role as a Project Document Administrator, Jeremy enjoys the day-to-day challenges of supporting project teams with project reporting, records management, systems access, procurement and cost control.
Jeremy says his career change has opened up a variety of new professional opportunities for him. It’s given him a renewed focus on applying his new skills and abilities to his work and he’s excited about the direction that his career is now heading in.
“Since commencing with Aurizon, I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from a range of diverse professionals across the Company who support my personal growth and career development,” Jeremy said.
“My role requires me to think on my feet, and adapt to changes on the fly. I really enjoy these situations because they give me the chance to improvise and create opportunities that didn’t exist before.”
This year Jeremy’s hard work and commitment was recognised by the Company with an Excellence Award for Trainee of the Year.
“I’m thrilled to have received this award, and hope I can inspire others to take a chance, take on a traineeship and see where it can lead them. It’s never too late to consider a career change and I’m really looking forward to the opportunities ahead with Aurizon.”
