Record Tonnes railed on the Central Queensland Coal Network

Aurizon recognises the achievement of a record tonnage milestone for the Central Queensland Coal Network (CQCN), an achievement which demonstrates the Company’s ongoing transformation to a world class transport and logistics operator.
On Saturday 24 May 2014 Aurizon’s Control Centre in Rockhampton recorded that 187.38 million tonnes (mt) of coal had been delivered via the CQCN during the financial year to date.
Aurizon, as part of the Central Queensland coal supply chain, is working hard to improve productivity to every part of the supply chain and deliver more coal from Queensland mines to international export markets.
The achievement reflects the sustained efforts and aligned planning by all of CQCN’s service providers, which include the Mines, Ports and Rail Operators, in a year when the network has experienced significant weather events, substantial work impacts on the Blackwater system and increased network capital renewals. At the same time, speed restrictions on the network have been at record lows, allowing trains to run consistently at higher velocities and with fewer delays.
Alex Kummant, Executive Vice President Network Aurizon said “Aurizon is proud to achieve this milestone. The service providers of the CQCN have been working hard to optimise rail tonnages and move more coal in a safer, faster and more efficient manner to deliver improved customer service”.
“The record volumes, achieved in under 11 months, reflect the Company’s ongoing transformation across all parts of the business”.
This record exceeds the previous record from 2009/10, where 187.36mt of coal was delivered to port in a financial year (1 July – 30 June).
