Ivan McLeod is the General Manager Iron Ore, Commercial & Marketing at Aurizon. In this role, Ivan is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of iron ore contracts in the Yilgarn and Mid-West regions of WA.
Ivan sees the iron ore business growth in three phases: first stage includes meeting the 30 million tonne target in the existing part of the business, second stage is to leverage off the work Aurizon has done with existing customers to increase those tonnages through incremental tonnages and through bringing in other customers into Aurizon’s network and the third stage is to explore the big opportunity in the Pilbara where significant tonnages have no pathway to market.
Ivan lives in Perth and enjoys going for a bike ride around the river before he gets to work.
Garry Bird is the Service Delivery Manager for the Midwest corridor and has spent over thirty years in transport and logistics.
Under Garry’s watch the Mid-West depot grew from 45 people to over 150, and included the development of Narngulu and the construction of the now operational Narngulu East wagon and locomotive maintenance, crewing and locomotive trip servicing depot.
Garry sees ‘tonnes to port’ as the biggest priority for Aurizon as well as its customers and is working closely with his team on ways of improving the trains operation to get the highest productivity out of the capital invested.
Garry lives in Geraldton with his family and is very proud of the fact that Aurizon is a local employer and everybody is pretty well home with their families every night.
Aurizon is Australia’s largest haulier of iron ore for export outside the Pilbara region and has a dedicated iron ore business in Western Australia which is delivering unique solutions to meet the customers’ growth plans.
Aurizon’s confidence is backed with more than $350 million of investment committed in additional rolling stock, supply of specialised heavy haul rail infrastructure and the provision of operational expertise to unlock stranded iron ore assets.
