In South Australia and the Northern Territory, Aurizon’s Bulk Central business provides general freight rail haulage and port services and operates the 2,200km Tarcoola-to-Darwin railway line.
Our infrastructure in Bulk Central connects our services across the nation, enabling transportation of numerous different commodities including base metals and iron ore, as well as agricultural products and new economy metals such as manganese and copper. Our integrated supply chain services ensure a reliable and efficient route to market, supporting both existing industries and emerging opportunities.
Rail services
We provide tailored solutions for transporting diverse commodities that could include minerals, fuel, agriculture and general consumer goods.
Our in-house expertise covers all aspects of above and below rail operations, including:
- over 35 train starts per day
- over 110 active locomotives and over 2,200 active wagons
- multiple maintenance and support facilities, terminals and other operational assets
- track operations and maintenance capability.
Port services
Our Aurizon Port Services (APS) team has extensive experience in the port industry, offering customised solutions for our customers. By focusing on innovation, we improve safety, environmental management, and efficiency in stevedoring and logistics services.
We offer state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, as well as a team of experienced and qualified people, to ensure the safe, efficient and reliable delivery of goods to and from the ports.
We provide transport, warehousing and stevedoring services at Port of Darwin and in 2024 we expanded our reach in South Australia by acquiring Flinders Logistics, a leading provider of stevedoring services at Port Adelaide and Port Pirie. This acquisition allows Bulk Central to offer customers an integrated rail and port supply chain with stevedoring and warehousing services.

Intermodal rail services
We are the market leader for intermodal services on the Adelaide to Darwin corridor, servicing Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Katherine & Darwin.
Our intermodal business transports containerised consumer goods, general cargo, bulk liquids and project cargo.
We have terminals at Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Katherine and Darwin, supported by our maintenance facilities in Darwin and Adelaide.
From early next year, we will provide six weekly return services from the Adelaide Gillman rail terminal to Darwin, with a transit time of two days. We are also a freight on-forwarding partner servicing all Australian mainland capital cities.
