Construction of the 6.2km track duplication south of Hay Point commenced late 2011 and was commissioned in July 2013 on time, under budget and with zero Lost Time injuries (LTIs).
State of the art materials and innovative designs were used to alleviate safety risks and system downtime, especially during flood events. Benefits include streamlined operations and additional train holding capacity.
The duplicated track now services both Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminals and a holding track provides additional capacity for empty trains travelling back to Aurizon's Jilalan Yard.
