Aurizon is working with customers to move more than 500,000 tonnes of this vital resource every day, bound for markets in Japan, China, South Korea, India and Taiwan.

We operate and manage the Central Queensland Coal Network, one of the world’s largest and most complex supply chains, made up of 2,670 kilometres of heavy haul rail infrastructure connected to both domestic coal users and the export terminals at Abbot Point, Dalrymple Bay, Hay Point and the Port of Gladstone. In Queensland, we also operate coal services in the South-West Corridor that connects coal mines in the Clarence-Moreton and Surat basins to the Port of Brisbane.

We have a keen eye for growth and we’re investigating the huge potential of Queensland’s last vast coal reserve in the Galilee Basin. We continue to work on a proposed infrastructure solution that would include connecting new (greenfield) railway from mines to our Central Queensland Coal Network and through to an expanded Abbot Point Coal Terminal.

Growing with our customers

Aurizon has brought its heavy haul coal expertise to the competitive coal supply chain of the Hunter Valley in New South Wales and we are growing with our coal customers.

Our $180 million train support facility at Hexham near the Port of Newcastle combines maintenance and provisioning in one low-impact facility, and makes train operations the most efficient they can be – with the latest new-generation locomotives.

At the heart of Aurizon’s value to customers is our ownership of the largest fleet of coal-hauling locomotives and wagons in Australia. Our fleet provides the flexibility required to meet fluctuating demand in addition to being suitably agile to respond to the expected growth of existing and future customers of Aurizon.
