QR National renews long-term bauxite and alumina haulage contract
QR National and Alcoa have signed a long term rail haulage agreement (RHA) for the transport of bauxite, alumina and refinery inputs in the South West of Western Australia.
The haulage task for Alcoa will contribute revenues of more than $400 million over the 10 year life of the agreement.
QR National Freight Executive Vice President and CEO Ken Lewsey said the 10-year agreement with Alcoa confirms QR National’s presence in the South West region.
“We are very pleased to continue our affiliation with Alcoa and this long term contract is a key to ongoing success in the area,” Mr Lewsey said.
“QR National is proud to play such a significant role in supporting a world class employer in their South-West operations through our depots in Kwinana and Picton,” Mr Lewsey said.
QR National Freight will invest $26 million in rolling stock maintenance to ensure continued service efficiencies.
“Our company plays an important role in the South West economy as an export enabler of the region’s resource commodities and, like Alcoa, is a major employer in the South-West region,” Mr Lewsey said.
