Wiggins Island Rail Project
The Wiggins Island Rail Project (WIRP) involved the staged development of new rail lines and upgrading of existing lines to service the Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal (WICET) at the Port of Gladstone. WIRP created a vital link between the coal terminal and mines in the southern Bowen and Surat Basins.
Goonyella Rail Expansion Project
Completed in mid-2013, the Hay Point Rail Expansion Project now services 30 coal mines in the northern Bowen Basin as the final leg of the 924km Goonyella Rail System. Coal is railed to the Port of Hay Point (40km south of Mackay) where it is exported through the Hay Point Coal Terminal (HPCT), operated by the BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) and the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT), operated by DBCT Management.
Goonyella to Abbot Point Expansion Project
Aurizon's completed Goonyella to Abbot Point Expansion Project (GAP) is further opening up the Bowen Basin coal reserves to export markets. On behalf of coal customers BMA, Rio Tinto, QCoal, Macarthur Coal and Lake Vermont Resources, this project increased capacity to 50mtpa through to the Port of Abbot Point near Bowen. First railings commenced ahead of schedule in December 2011.
