What kind of freight does Aurizon carry?

Dangerous Goods - Hazardous (dangerous) materials needs approval prior to collection. This includes but is not limited to Acids (Including Batteries), Explosives (Including Fireworks and ammunition), Fuel ,Gas, Flammable, Corrosive or Caustic Substances, Poisons and Radioactive Materials.
Aurizon reserves the right to refuse items that are dangerous, restricted or generally unsafe.

I don’t have an account, can I still send goods?
Cash bookings are offered for businesses.  All freight movements require payment prior to collection/ acceptance.  Simply call the customer contact team on 1300 130 676 and will we provide you with a tax invoice for payment (see methods of payment). Once payment has been confirmed, your consignment will be booked and a consignment note will be issued.

How long will it take to collect my goods? 
Bookings made before 5pm will be collected the following day (eg. Booked Tuesday, collected Wednesday.  Booked Friday, collected Monday)

What restrictions are there for sending freight?
Unfortunately, not all freight is suitable for sending via rail.

What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards (subject to credit card surcharge).  Direct Deposit is also available. For the security of your personal information, we recommend calling our contact centre staff on 1300 130 676 to make a credit card payment rather than emailing details through.  An online payment facility is not currently available.

I don’t have a forklift to unload, Can you help?
Unloading services are available, but incur an additional charge. These include tailgate and hand unloading.  Please call our contact centre on 1300 130 676 or email for pricing and more information on these services.

Can I track my consignments?
All consignment notes are internally tracked. If the delivery falls out of these time, for an updated Estimated Time of Arrival(ETA), please call our Customer Contact centre on 1300 130 676 or email

Can I drop off my consignment directly to your depot?

What are 'broker sponsored' and 'issuer sponsored' holdings?
You are 'broker sponsored' after you have entered into an agreement with a stockbroker and have been allocated a Holder Identification Number (HIN) beginning with an “X”. If your shares are held under a broker sponsored agreement you need to notify the broker of any change of name or address, not the company or our share registry, Computershare. Holding statements will be issued to you by the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).

Shareholders who do not have a broker agreement are automatically sponsored by the company and hold their shares in a dematerialised form. This is known as having an 'Issuer Sponsored' holding. Issuer Sponsored holdings are given a unique Securityholder Reference Number (SRN) starting with an “I” that relates to your specific holding in Aurizon. Holding statements will be issued to you by Computershare on behalf of Aurizon.

How do I manage my shareholding?
Aurizon shareholders can access a number of services provided by Computershare online at The online service can be used to obtain information on your current holding and transaction history including dividend payment information for taxation purposes. You can also access and advise of changes to your holding such as Direct Credit banking instructions, change of address, notification of tax file number. If you are not able to access the information you require online, please contact Computershare on the contact details provided.

Why is it important to keep my personal details up to date?
In order to provide you with up to date news about Aurizon and to ensure your dividend is delivered to you swiftly, it is important that you inform us of any changes to your shareholding as soon practicable. Aurizon encourages you to monitor and update your shareholding online through It is a fast, secure and convenient way for you to maintain your shareholding.

Can I get a replacement dividend statement?

How do I change my address?

Where can I find the current share price?

When will my dividends be paid?
The Directors normally expect Aurizon to pay dividends in arrears for the six month periods ended 31 December (interim dividend) and 30 June (final dividend). Click here for Aurizon's dividend policy and dividend payment history. 
How does Aurizon pay dividends?
Aurizon pays dividends by direct credit to holders with an Australian bank account. All other holders (rest of world) will receive a cheque, by means of global payment or by standard payment defaulting back to AUD.

Does Aurizon have a Dividend Reinvestment Plan?
There is currently no dividend re-investment program. This will continue to be assessed by the Board in light of investment and growth opportunities available to Aurizon, the capital markets environment at the time as well as Aurizon’s focus on maintaining a strong credit rating and enhancing long-term shareholder value.  

How do I buy and sell shares in Aurizon?
Aurizon stock can be bought or sold through a stockbroker, bank or financial institution that offers brokerage services. Aurizon does not offer a direct stock purchase plan. 

When will Aurizon’s results be announced to the market?

Aurizon’s profit announcements will generally occur in late February (half-year) and late August (full-year) respectively.

What is the new Aurizon Class Ruling from the Australian Tax Office on the Loyalty Bonus Share Scheme?
Further to section 10.9.2 of the Aurizon Share Offer Document, Aurizon has obtained a Class Ruling from the Australian Taxation Office for retail investors who acquired Aurizon shares under the Retail Offer on capital account. The ruling sets out the Commissioner of Taxation’s view as to what constitutes an appropriate methodology to reasonably attribute capital proceeds paid by retail investors to determine the tax cost base of:

  • their Aurizon ordinary shares; and
  • their Aurizon Loyalty Bonus Rights acquired at the time of the IPO.
  • The ruling also outlines how the cost base of Loyalty Bonus Shares is determined after the requisite holding conditions have been satisfied.

The ruling also includes worked examples for investors as to how the methodology will apply in certain scenarios (eg. on disposal of the Loyalty Bonus Shares for capital gains tax purposes).

Shareholders should seek their own professional advice on the taxation implications of holding and disposing of their Shares, Loyalty Bonus Rights and Loyalty Bonus Shares, taking into account their specific circumstances.

When do I need to obtain permission from Aurizon Network to travel?
You must have the necessary authority when the load exceeds legislative requirements set down in the Transport Infrastructure (Rail) Regulation 2006.  A summary of these requirements can be found at overdimensional loads overview. For more details, refer to the Transport Infrastructure (Rail) Regulation 2006 available on the Office of the Queensland Parliamentary Counsel web site.


Why do I need a permit?
A permit is an authority to travel, under specific conditions, and is issued to manage adverse affects on Aurizon's rail network.  A permit is a legislative requirement, and it is important to ensure the safety of all people involved in the transportation of over dimensional road loads, Aurizon staff and the general public.
A permit also ensures that all Aurizon infrastructure is protected from potential damage and that the police are informed of Aurizon requirements. Police must check the permit before travel.

Why do I need a confirmation?
A confirmation is authority to travel without added restrictions from Aurizon.  It is a requirement of the Queensland Police that Over-dimensional road loads are checked for dimension and route by Aurizon before travelling.
The police require all over-dimensional road loads to have a confirmation from Aurizon Network even when it does not travel over Aurizon infrastructure. 
There is no charge for a confirmation.


What is the application fee?
The fee varies, depending on the over dimensional road load and complexity of the application. A list of the relevant fees can be found at Overdimensional loads charges.

Is there an additional fee if I change the details on my application?

You may have to pay an additional permit fee to cover the extra work required to process the change requested. An additional permit fee may apply if the following changes are made outside of the relevant time frames specified by Aurizon:
a change of route;
a change of date; or 
change of dimensions.

When I have a change of details, do I have to send a whole new application?


How much notice does Aurizon Network require?
The applicable Application Form sets out how much notification must be received by Aurizon before the transportation of an over-dimensional road load on Aurizon track infrastructure. Depending on the type of load that is being transported, different requirements need to be met.


What happens if I don’t obtain an authority?
You may incur penalty units under the Transport Infrastructure (Rail) Regulation 2006 and be liable for any damages to Aurizon's rail infrastructure.
Please note that a permit or confirmation does not prevent liability including damage to Aurizon property and personal injury to any person. 
Police escorts should not allow the move to proceed without a written Aurizon permit or confirmation to cross the rail infrastructure.


Why must I list overbridge and open level crossings in the application?
Why must I list the time that the over dimensional road load will cross an open level crossing?  This allows routes to be checked in order to ensure the safety of both Aurizon infrastructure and all concerned parties.


What should I do if I haven't received a permit or confirmation from Aurizon?
If you have not received a permit or confirmation by 10 am four working days prior to the move, it is important to call the overdimensional loads team on 07 3235 1719 as soon as possible. If you do not contact Aurizon your move on the required date may be in jeopardy.

Australian citizens or applicants with permanent residency are eligible to apply for a position with Aurizon unless otherwise stated.

Can I apply for more than one advertised position?
Yes, provided the position matches your interest and qualifications you are eligible to apply. A separate online application is required for each advertised position.

What documentation will I need for my application?
You will require a current CV / resume and/or cover letter. Depending on the type of position you are applying for, you may be asked to supply additional supporting documentation.

What format should I supply my documentation?
Attachments cannot exceed 2Mb in size. Tips to help reduce your attachments include:

  • Use JPEG format for images and set your file export for web or email quality
  • In newer versions of MS Word you can click ‘Compress Pictures’ on the Picture toolbar
  • Mac users: Make sure you save your document with an extension. When saving in Microsoft Word, ensure the “Append file extension” checkbox is ticked.

Can I resume my application at a later stage?
You can continue to edit your application at any time prior to the position closing date through your profile. How do I update my personal details?

How will I know if my application has been submitted successfully?
You will receive a confirmation email (to your registered email address) from Aurizon advising that your application has been received. If you do not receive this email, please check your spam filters or contact us.

I don’t have an email address, can I still apply for a position via the website?
A valid email address is required before applying for any advertised positions. Free email services are available with Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo.

How can I check the status of my application?
You can login to your personal profile and click “view application” to check the status of your application. Alternatively please contact us or call the call the employment centre on 13 23 32.

Am I required to complete any Psychometric Assessment to obtain a position with Aurizon?
You may be. We use a variety of assessments, which are selected based on the skills required for the role you are applying for. In line with out Zero Harm policy, testing is mandatory for any safety critical position.

Is there a specific cut-off for the Psychometric Assessments that I complete?
Psychometric assessments are used as one component of our merit-based recruitment process. In accordance with Aurizon’s Zero Harm policy, there is a minimum level of achievement required from those candidates completing testing for roles that are identified as “safety critical”. 

How long does it take to complete the Psychometric Assessments?
Depending on what role you are applying for, testing can take up to three hours to complete and may be available online.

Why does Aurizon include Psychometric Assessments in the recruitment process?
Research has shown that these assessments provide a fair and objective measure of future on-the-job performance and this cannot be accurately obtained from other aspects of the recruitment process.

What do these Psychometric Assessments measure?
Aurizon selects assessments which measure abilities and preferences that are important to the role you are applying for. Some of these may include; problem solving ability, verbal and numerical reasoning ability and personality preferences.

Can I have feedback on my results?
Yes. All applicants who complete Psychometric Assessments for selection purposes are entitled to receive verbal feedback on their results. However, candidates will need to await confirmation of the outcome of their application prior to seeking feedback.

Who sees the results of my Psychometric Assessments?
Psychometric Assessment results are strictly confidential. Access to candidates results is restricted to those who are directly involved in the recruitment process.

What do I need before applying?

What is Aurizon’s graduate-recruitment process?
As this is an Expression of Interest, recruitment and selection processes will commence as business needs require graduate and intern/student positions.

When does the Aurizon GDP commence?
Our GDP commences each year in February. Employment may start earlier depending on business demands as to whether we are able to accommodate.

Does Aurizon take/sponsor international graduates?
No, Aurizon only accepts graduates who currently hold Australian Permanent Residency such as the Skilled – Independent (residence) visa (subclass 885).
Aurizon does not sponsor any students in applying for permanent residency. Aurizon does not sponsor graduate program applicants who currently hold (or seek to gain) a 457 Temporary Business (Long stay) Visa, or a 485 Skilled Graduate (Temporary) Visa.


How long does the Aurizon graduate program go for?
Aurizon’s Enterprise Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a structured two-year program for all disciplines except Engineering where it is a three year program to:
• help adapt and cope with transitioning to working / corporate life
• build their alignment with Aurizon corporate vision
• learn how to set effective goals for your development

What is Aurizon’s gradu​ate salary?
Aurizon offers a competitive salary, which will be discussed with you during the recruitment process and after your interview should you reach the letter-of-offer stage.

Do I get to choose what project I work on?
The nature and location of work will affect resourcing requirements. When determining the project that you will be working on your Manager and Graduate Coordinator will take into account where you are currently based and try to locate you close to home where possible. While your home location is taken into consideration many of our projects are spread across diverse geographical locations and if our interstate and remote projects may require graduates to relocate. If a project comes up that you are very interested in working on you can advise us of your interest and we will try to accommodate this depending on project requirement.


Where are Aurizon graduates located?
Aurizon has business operations in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.

Do I have to do rotations?
Yes. The Aurizon Graduate Development Program provides graduates with the opportunity to learn about and experience the way we do business. The purpose of rotations is to assist graduates in building their core capabilities and technical skills to support the diverse functions of the business. Rotations also provide you with the opportunity to meet and network with a whole range of people increasing your connections within the business even further.

Do I get to choose my rotations?
Yes, we are flexible in your career development however this is dependant on business demands as to whether we are able to accommodate.

If I have to relocate, will Aurizon pay?
Aurizon has a standard relocation procedure that will be implemented in the case of any graduate required to relocate as part of their role with the business.

What kind of hours will I be working?
Every development phase will differ for each graduate. Working hours will be dependent upon the development phase you are working in and requirements of the project or office. As an Engineer within our business you may be on a rotational roster which requires working weekends or nightshift – your manager will discuss this requirement with you.

Does Aurizon have a mid-year graduate intake?
Aurizon recruits based on business and project needs, so there will be some occasions when mid-year intakes are required. Our graduate roles are advertised on our website, we encourage you to set up a job alert.

How can I make my application stand out?
Take the time to read through the information we have given you so that you understand what details we are asking you to provide. Start your application early so that you have time to go back and review it with a clear mind before submitting it. There are no trick questions; answer things honestly and appropriately. Have someone look over your application to proofread it, and make sure you use spell-check. Don’t send something that is generic.

How many positions do you have?
Aurizon recruits based on business and project needs. Sometimes these needs are not known at the start of the recruitment process, however they will be confirmed as applications progress.

Can I view the progress of my application and can I make any changes once it has been submitted?
Once your application has been submitted you will receive an email advising that we have successfully received it. Throughout the recruitment process we will communicate with you via email so make sure your email address is correct.
You can make some changes to your application once it has been submitted and we encourage you to make sure that you check your application every few weeks to ensure that the following details are still correct:

What are the long-term career prospects for Aurizon graduates? What happens to me after I complete the Graduate Development Program (GDP)?
At Aurizon we commence graduates as full-time (fixed term) employees from day one for two years. During the 2 year program we will rotate you around our company, allowing you to fully explore all of the divisions that our diverse organisation offers, providing you with the opportunity to build your career with us. Given the amount of time and resources we invest in our graduates we aim to keep you all employed within the business post Graduate Development Program.


Does Aurizon accept Vacation Students?
Yes, vacancies depend on project needs. We will attempt to assist 3rd and 4th year students in the first instance as it is becoming more and more common that educational institutions require this experience from students to allow them to complete university and graduate. Expressions of interest are advertised now (for Winter vacation work) and October (for Summer vacation work) each year. Applications are accepted through the website only.

Does Aurizon have internships?
Aurizon actively supports university-based internship programs and work-integrated learning courses in a range of disciplines. This gives you the opportunity to gain industry experience that works around your university schedule.

Who do you class as a Graduate?
To be considered for the Aurizon Graduate Development Program you must have completed an Australian or New Zealand Undergraduate degree within two years of commencement of the Graduate Development Program to ensure your studies remain contemporary with current business practices.
Students who are completing a Masters or PhD must have completed their undergraduate degree within the same two year timeframe (outlined above)

If I am unsuccessful in my application for the Graduate Program this time, can I apply for the program again?
Yes, applicants are eligible to apply for the Aurizon Graduate Development Program again the following year however you must have completed your studies within two years of the year of application.
