Aurizon works with industry partners in construction alliances, and also in traditional contracting arrangements to deliver its projects.
The benefits of these alliances include a cooperative and flexible approach to delivering complex projects over time, the development of strong relationships with the private sector, and considerable savings in time and cost to Aurizon and industry.
Aspect3
The Aspect3 Alliance was formed in 2008 to collaboratively plan and deliver signalling infrastructure improvements for the rail network in Queensland. The Alliance partnership of Aurizon and Invensys Rail combines the local expertise and knowledge of the rail owner / operator with the global experience and signalling solutions of one of the world’s foremost rail technology specialists.
Aspect3 is working closely on a number of projects such as the Rockhampton Yard Upgrade and the Goonyella to Abbot Point Expansion Project (Abbot Point to Bogie River).

Coal Stream
The Coal Stream Alliance was formed to deliver works that will increase the operational efficiency and capacity of the Aurizon coal rail network, specifically through the upgrade of Jilalan Rail Yard and part of the Goonyella to Abbot Point Expansion Project.
Jilalan Rail Yard upgrade will improve the performance of the Goonyella Coal Chain from the mines, by rail, to the Dalrymple Bay and Hay Point coal terminals.
Aurizon has teamed with Alliance members Aurecon Hatch, Parsons Brinckerhoff, Macmahon Holdings Limited and MVM Rail to deliver design and construction for these projects. This work includes track construction, rail yard facility upgrades, bridge and road building and upgrades.

Coal Connect

CoalConnect, a project alliance, was formed to deliver part of the civil works for the Goonyella to Abbot Point (GAP) Expansion Project.
This alliance comprised of Aurizon, construction firm Leighton Contractors, and designers GHD and Kellogg Brown & Root Pty Ltd (KBR), was selected as the ideal mix of companies to create the needed rail solutions to meet government, industry and community needs.
The Alliance is committed to working closely with stakeholders and the broader community to achieve the best outcomes for the project and the local area. CoalConnect aims to deliver their works in a sustainable manner and to create a positive legacy through LinkLegacy, the project’s environment and community program.

Synergy Alliance
Aurizon has appointed Synergy Alliance as one of two alliances to assist in delivering the rail signalling component on a number of Aurizon projects in Queensland.
Synergy Alliance is comprised of leading industry specialists Ansaldo-STS, United Group Limited and Aurizon. This group was selected for their national, international and local expertise in delivering rail signalling solutions.
Signalling is a critical element for the enhancement of the coal rail network, providing the means to safely and efficiently manage train operations.
