Wiggins Island Rail Project

The Wiggins Island Rail Project (WIRP) is the staged development f new rail lines and upgrading of existing lines to service the new Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal (WICET) at the Port of Gladstone.

WIRP will create a vital link between the new Wiggins Island Coal Terminal and mines in the Southern Bowen and Surat Basins. More

Central Queensland Integrated Rail Project

Aurizon is investigating an integrated rail network from the Galilee and Bowen Basins to all Central Queensland coal ports. This includes:

  • upgrades and deviations to the existing Newlands rail line, from Goonyella and Abbot Point
  • approximately 180 kilometres of new rail corridor from the Galilee Basin to the Newlands rail line

The proposed Central Queensland Integrated Rail Project (CQIRP) would service the growing needs of the Galilee and Bowen Basins, providing access to the existing Central Queensland coal chain and multiple port destinations. More

Goonyella Rail Expansion Project

The 924km Goonyella Rail System in Central Queensland services 30 coal mines in the northern Bowen Basin. Coal is railed to the Port of Hay Point, south of Mackay, where it is exported through the Hay Point Coal Terminal (HPCT), operated by the BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), and the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT), operated by DBCT Management. Hexham Train Support Facility

The Hexham Train Support Facility (TSF) will service Aurizon’s growing Hunter Valley coal freight business and alleviate capacity pressures in the coal supply chain. Located at Maitland Road, Hexham in the Hunter Valley of NSW, Aurizon proposes to redevelop approximately 30 hectares of the 255 hectares industrial land it owns into a TSF. More

Blackwater Power Systems Strengthening Project

In September 2012, Aurizon commissioned the $195 million Blackwater Power System Strengthening Project, which nearly doubled the electric capacity on the Blackwater rail system that connects mines west of Rockhampton to coal loading ports at Gladstone.

The project involved the 27-month construction and commissioning of four electrical feeder stations and associated infrastructure at Bluff, Wycarbah, Duaringa and Raglan between Blackwater and Mount Larcom.More

Goonyella to Abbot Point Expansion Project

Aurizon's completed Goonyella to Abbot Point Expansion Project (GAP) has further opened the Bowen Basin coal reserves to export markets. On behalf of coal customers BMA, Rio Tinto, QCoal, Macarthur Coal and Lake Vermont Resources, this project delivered an extra 50 Mtpa of capacity through to the Port of Abbot Point near Bowen. First railings commenced ahead of schedule in December 2011. More
